Upon learning The Jean Cocteau Repertory Theatre would be producing Shaw's Candida Dec. 19 through Jan. 29, I sought out a description of the play. I read a great series of articles  on Last Days -- the new Gus Van Sant film inspired by Kurt Cobain -- in The Village Voice yesterday.

Roger Ebert's  review  was a waste of print space in newspapers around the country. Big stars like Depp do have input in their wardrobe, surely, but you can't blame the actor for the costume and makeup design.
Why the hat and cane? Gee, I don't know Gene Wilder had one too. Maybe it's in the book or something. Loser.

This is an intriguing  article about The Sims and its social implications, etc. I've only played the gameboy version of Sims in the City, so there's a limit to how intense the game can get. Remind me to tell you about this theory of mine. I'm still working on it but the gist of it is that laziness is, above all, a symptom of poor re-creational habits/history. Just what we needed. Yet another reality TV show this one setting visual artists up in competion to become the next Artstar . I like the idea of exposing the art world to anyone with cable TV -- assuming that's where it will air (even though I personally only have antenna reception) but... how may they try to spice things up for ratings and possibly sucuumb to damaging cliches, etc.

I know Dogville has been out forever, but I just got around to watching it the other week. I think it's one of the top 20 important films I've ever seen -- and maybe that's just because I'm  a theatre person with a passion for Brecht, but... there you have it. In the follow up readings I did, this quote in particular made some kind of sense.
