I know Dogville has been out forever, but I just got around to watching it the other week. I think it's one of the top 20 important films I've ever seen -- and maybe that's just because I'm a theatre person with a passion for Brecht, but... there you have it. In the follow up readings I did, this quote in particular made some kind of sense.

"My primitive view is that if a system is partly built on the idea that you are the maker of your own happiness, then of course poor people are miserable in the sense that they failed completely. Whereas in other countries, you might look at that more as a failure of the society."
